How NFI
Works

M / 01

NFI is Nebraska MMA's independent system for rankings, fighter ratings, scouting, and style classifications.

A Nebraska MMA feature

Rank the résumé.
Rate the tools.
Never confuse the two.

NFI stands for Nebraska Fight Index. It is the rankings and fighter-evaluation system within Nebraska MMA—not a separate publication. The board ranks public competitive evidence. NFI OVR is a separate scouting layer: a game-style snapshot of observed skills, résumé, and activity.

01

Verified results

Official outcomes, method, round, and opponent identity form the evidence base.

02

Quality of competition

Wins and losses are evaluated against the level, form, and credibility of the opponent.

03

Recency & activity

Recent relevant performance usually carries more weight than distant or inactive history.

04

Performance context

Decisiveness, competitiveness, weight changes, short-notice context, and overturned results matter.

05

Head-to-head evidence

A recent direct result matters, but it does not automatically override the full body of work forever.

06

Editorial review

No formula replaces accountable judgment. Changes should be explainable from published standards.

NFI OVR · research release 02

A composite fighter rating with fight-specific stars.

Thirty-four 50–99 scouting grades form four pillars: Stand-Up, Grappling, Athletic Profile, and Fight Craft. A fighter receives an MMA OVR only after the profile passes the MMA ranking audit. Ratings combine skill assessments with results, opponent history, title experience, and activity. They are assessments, not official bout statistics.

01 · Skill pillars

30 / 30 / 20 / 20

Stand-Up and Grappling each carry 30% of the skill composite. Athletic Profile and Fight Craft each carry 20%.

02 · Star translation

50–99 → 2.5–5★

50–59 is 2.5 stars, 60–69 is 3, 70–79 is 3.5, 80–89 is 4, 90–95 is 4.5, and 96–99 is 5.

03 · Rating updates

Evidence and review

Current NFI ratings are published and updated as additional footage and stats are reviewed. Publication does not imply a completed film review. Film-reviewed status requires two independent reviewers assessing at least two bouts or ten recent minutes, with footage links and review dates.

04 · Gold specialties

Style, not rank

Gold stars identify the five attributes most connected to a fighter’s assigned archetype. They do not add bonus points or replace the underlying grade.

NFI style library

Every archetype, explained.

Archetypes describe how a fighter tends to solve problems—not how good the fighter is. Tap any specialization to see what the label means in practical fight terms.

Eligibility

Completed MMA evidence

A ranked athlete must have at least one completed, verifiable MMA result and meet Nebraska-based or documented Nebraska-circuit eligibility. Boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, grappling, smoker, cancelled, and announced bouts never create an MMA rank. Professional and amateur boards remain separate.

Corrections

Evidence beats ego

Fighters, coaches, promoters, and fans can submit corrections with a reliable source. Staff verifies confirmed facts, records the edit, and reopens the relevant board when the change could affect order.

Independence

Placement is not for sale

Advertising, sponsorship, tickets, access, gym relationships, or partnerships never guarantee coverage, ranking, prospect placement, or favorable scouting language.

Board operations

When and why the board changes.

Rankings move from eligible evidence—not announcements, pressure, or a fixed content schedule.

01 · Results

Verified before counted

An announced bout is not a result. NFI Rankings updates records after an eligible outcome can be reconciled to a reliable source. Boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and grappling activity can add context without changing an MMA record.

02 · Cadence

Event review + full-board review

Relevant boards are reviewed after verified Nebraska-circuit results. NFI Rankings also performs scheduled full-board audits for inactivity, affiliation, eligibility, division, and accumulated résumé changes.

03 · Uncertainty

Pending means pending

Conflicting records, missing methods, uncertain affiliations, and limited footage stay visible in verification notes. NFI Rankings does not fill a public-record gap with a confident guess.

04 · Activity

Twenty-four-month window

Public profiles require a documented completed MMA bout within the past two calendar years, including the cutoff date. Inactive profiles and files without qualifying evidence are removed from the public roster and retained privately for review. A scheduled fight or another combat sport does not qualify. There are no automatic exceptions.

Source precedence

How a conflict is resolved.

No single database is assumed infallible. The strongest evidence controls the specific claim being checked.

01 · Official result

Commission or promotion ledger

For result, method, round, and ruling changes, a commission-linked ledger or official final result outranks an aggregator header.

02 · Bout history

Reconcile line by line

Tapology, Combat Registry, Sherdog, official event pages, and credible event reporting are compared bout by bout. A conflicting total is labeled until the disputed line is identified.

03 · Team facts

First-party confirmation

Gym, stance, coaching, and current-camp claims favor the athlete, gym, coach, or promotion’s current first-party statement. Temporary training is not rewritten as a permanent camp.

04 · Ranking case

Explain the placement

Every ranked profile publishes the résumé reasons, deductions, source links, scope of each source, verification date, and any unresolved conflict.

Research stack

What this release checked

Release 02 audits every ranked profile for identity, completed MMA ledger, methods, opponent history, championship context, division, eligibility, affiliation, activity, and database conflicts. Every profile exposes the exact sources and what each source was used to verify. Ratings remain editorial assessments—not facts supplied by a database.
